Flex Strainer Cooking Tips – Measured Straining
Flex Strainer is widely known for being a kitchen sink drain strainer and stopper. But did you know you can use Flex Strainer to create your gravy or strain water and oils in canned vegetables, fruit, tuna and so much more? It even works great to separate egg whites and yokes for your favorite recipe dishes. It’s BPA free so it very safe to use.
Its heat-resistant construction makes this Flex Strainer great for hot liquids, and the soft silicon-like material provides a good grip against your measuring cups. The Flex Strainer is 5.25” in diameter and the inside is 3.25” in diameter, so it will fit over most 1 and 2 cup measuring cups.
Gravy

The strainer will catch any excess herbs or vegetables used in the making of your rich pan drippings or stock to make your gravy, soup, or sauce nice and smooth.
For best use, set the strainer in place over your measuring cup and slowly pour the stock through the strainer into the measuring cup. Pouring slowly ensures that any herbs, vegetables, or meat will catch in the strainer and still allow the liquid to pass through. Give the pan drippings or sauce time to separate, letting the fat rise to the top. Slowly pour the smooth, separated broth into a separate container until only the fat remains, which can then be discarded.
Straining canned vegetables, fruits, or tuna
Simply open your cans, place the flex strainer face down over the top of the can, turn it over and drain directly into your sink. Easy peasy! Less mess and fewer dishes, pots, or pans to use. Plus, the silicone-like material is easy to clean out. No hand washing like the metal mesh strainers since you throw it in the dishwasher.
Separating egg yolks and whites
Place the Flex Strainer over your measuring cup. Crack the egg into the strainer carefully dropping the egg yolk into the strainer. The soft silicone-like material gently accepts the egg yolk while the whites run thru the strainer. If you are keeping your yolks, simply scoop up the yolk with your favorite yolk-sized spoon and gently lift out. The white will continue dripping in.
Clean up
When you're done, it’s an easy clean-up over the sink or in the dishwasher because the Flex Strainer is BPA-free and dishwasher-safe, so it’s safe to use for cooking and easy to clean.
